Years Fishing?
As a little child my grandfather showed me how to fish. Since then I was addicted to it and followed that passion which brought me into fly fishing.
Can you tell us a little about your home waters and the fish you pursue there?
Located around 50km south of Munich close the alps right in the heart of Bavaria. I have the opportunity to fish in small creeks with big rocks and waterfalls to mid sized clear rivers. The main population is mostly stoked rainbows, native grown browns and my well beloved graylings.
What’s the height of the season for you? What time of year is your personal favorite?
After a long and cold winter with lots of snow and less opportunities to fish the height is definitely spring. I can´t wait for the start of season and really appreciate that.
At my home-waters I personally prefer fall. Not just because of fishing more it’s one of the most beautiful times of the year I think. I like the coloration of nature at this time and there is nothing better then cashing trout and grayling on a foggy morning. Although I try to manage to spend at least one or tow trips a year in some other countries.
What are your favorite travel destinations?
I really felt in love with Iceland. Have been there once so far and it’s just an remarkable country. The style of vegetation which can chance in a blink of an eye from bright green to an rocky lava wasteland. I will definitely come back that’s for sure. I have been in Israel fishing for barbel at the Jordan which was a really special experience for me being able fishing on a historical river like that. Although Slovenia with the boys is always worth a trip that I really enjoy.
What’s on the bucket list?
Going for golden dorado in the jungle of Bolivia is one of biggest dreams and for sure on top of my bucket list. But there are many other countries like Greenland and Los Roques for example…the list is long.
I really like traveling either with a backpack or my van as long as I have my fly rod with me.
What do you like most about Thomas and Thomas rods? Which rods do you fish?
My go-to rod it the Avantt 864-4. This rod is perfect for my home-waters and I really enjoy fishing with this kind of handmade high quality tackle. When it comes to storage and usability I appreciate the Fishpond Thunderhead Submersible Sling. The quick access and the fact that it is waterproof are things that I´m looking for.
What’s your current go-to fly?
I’m addicted to stimulator fly patterns. Especially dark colors like brown and black work pretty good in a variety of size in most of the rivers I’m fishing. If I have to go deep I use pretty often flies like the Frenchie.
